Jeffrey Theodore Kezar was welcomed here with us the morning of September 8, one day before his due date! I cannot even begin to explain how happy and in love with him I am! I know you other mamas out there know the feeling but there is no real way to describe the pure joy that their little face brings!
I had been dilated slightly, and progressing slowly for a few weeks before our due date, and us and our doctor both thought there was a good chance our baby might be early. So nearly every day, I would get up and drink my red raspberry leaf tea, and take long walks to get contractions going! I started having consistent, time-able contractions the weekend before and like true first time parents, Blake and I went into the hospital in the middle of the night only to be sent home! It was such a bummer! We had hoped that maybe if they just checked us in we would really get to have him that night! But as they told us they would, the contractions subsided and we continued the tea and walking every day.
We had a doctor’s appointment on Tuesday and when my doctor checked me, our Teddy was head down just like he was supposed to be and had been the entire pregnancy! So Wednesday came and I noticed that he felt different in my tummy. Even friends we saw that day said my tummy looked lower. I was really hoping that meant we were close, and it did! I woke up around 3 am on Thursday morning with strong contractions. I started timing them and eventually got up and moved around, using my exercise ball and putting last minute things into our hospital bags. Around 5, the contractions were still consistent and getting stronger. I was sure this was it, so I went into our room and woke Blake up! We were SO incredibly excited that the day we’d always looked forward to was finally here! I wanted to wait as long as I could stand it before going to the hospital, so I got ready and we packed up the car and got to there around 7 or so.
The triage nurse came in to check me and told us that our baby was breach! What?! I literally didn’t believe her, and told Blake I was sure she was mistaken! He’d been head down the whole time! She ordered an ultrasound and yep, there he was, feet down, head up! We were told our doctor was in surgery and would meet us in an hour to give us our options. At that point I was having strong, very painful contractions, but they couldn’t give me any pain medication until I went in for the c-section. Once our doctor came in, he assured us that a cEsperanza would be our safest bet. As scared as I was, the excitement of having my baby in my arms within the hour made it so much better!
As soon as the decision was made, we had a whole medical team getting me ready to go in to the operating room. Blake came with me and watched and supported me! He held our boy as soon as he was delivered and helped them put him on my chest! Just thinking about the blur of everything happening makes my heart race, remembering how excited I was that our baby was finally here! As soon as they helped put him to my breast he latched on without any hesitation, it was beautiful and perfect! He was born 19 1/4 inches long weighing exactly 7 pounds. He is everything I could have dreamed and more. It’s amazing when you hold your tiny newborn and their little eyes look right at you, it was the most magical day of my life!
Today Teddy is three weeks and doing so well! I will post more updates soon so follow along. Thank you all for your support and love! We love you!
